Abie

Situated on Lincoln Street in the lively heart of Tel Aviv, the ABIE project unfolds its narrative with a homage to another Abraham, the iconic peace activist known as Abie Nathan. Renowned for his audacious pursuits, from solo flights to Egypt to impassioned runs to the Knesset, Abie Nathan’s most enduring legacy is “The Voice of Peace” radio station. Broadcasting from a boat anchored outside Israel’s territorial waters, it resonated a message of peace throughout the Middle East for two impactful decades. Motivated by the extraordinary tale of Abie Nathan and a profound yearning for the hopeful era he represented, the Doktor brothers, Asaf and Yotam, embarked on a culinary venture. ABIE, the seafood restaurant, exclusively sources its fish and seafood from the bountiful depths of the local Mediterranean waters.

Our journey into the heart of this branding project commenced with an in-depth exploration, unearthing original photographs, documents, personal letters, and promotional materials from “The Voice of Peace” era. Drawing inspiration from the authentic visuals, we’ve created a series of propaganda posters and surreal photo collages, forming an identity that pays homage to the past while embracing a contemporary aesthetic. The logo, featuring the silhouette of the original boat, intertwines nostalgic Hebrew typography with English, creating a harmonious blend. The resurrected tagline, “From Somewhere in the Mediterranean,” now alludes to the fresh fish and seafood sourced from the azure Mediterranean waters.

Stepping into the restaurant, guests are greeted by a mural proudly displaying the timeless slogan, an “on air” light box that nods to the radio station’s legacy, boat windows adorning restroom doors, and an array of framed posters, collages, and documents that adorn the walls. Dried herbs and branches, carefully hung against the backdrop, infuse the space with a sensory connection to the natural elements.

Beyond the culinary delights, our creative journey extended to the design of a private label Anise, crafted by the esteemed Julius Distillery, and a private label Shenin Blanc wine, an offering from the renowned Tabor Winery. These exclusive offerings are a testament to the meticulous curation that defines the ABIE experience, connecting patrons not only with the taste of the Mediterranean but also with the spirit of Abie Nathan’s enduring quest for peace.
